Background:
Once upon a time, there were three young orphans – Mickey, Donald, Goofy – who were inspired to become great heroes by four brave musketeers. They kept to this dream even when they were just janitors who nobody thought had a chance in heck to ever become anything else. However, thanks to a nefarious plot by Pete, the Captain of the Guards, not only did they become musketeers, but also heroes who saved royalty. In the process, Mickey fell for princess Minnie and had his feelings returned. Captain Pete’s attempt to take over the monarchy failed thanks to the efforts of our heroes, and he lost his position, though he was still allowed to stay in the kingdom.

Years later, Mickey and Minnie would marry, thus becoming King and Queen. The musketeers became knights, and magic was discovered in their world. Goofy became the Captain of the Knights, Donald became the court mage, and Pete remained a troublemaker. But as peaceful years in the Disney Kingdom went on, Mickey had several secrets to keep – first, thanks in part to Scrooge McDuck, an amazingly rich traveler, he learned about other worlds, and second, thanks in part to the mystical Yensid, he learned the power of the Keyblade. In order to keep his friends and loved ones safe, he couldn’t tell them the full truth of what laid outside their kingdom, nor the true extent of Mickey’s own magical prowess. During this time, he also became friends with Ansem the Wise, an interesting human with new ideas about darkness and light.

Yensid taught Mickey how to be a Keyblade Master, so he could help keep other worlds as safe as the Disney Kingdom, but Mickey was often headstrong and eager to try new things without Yensid’s permission. This landed him in trouble frequently, such as using his master’s magical hat and nearly drowning, and then ‘borrowing’ a device that allowed him to travel worlds without any control. It was thanks to this latter trouble that he met Aqua, Terra, and Ventus. He was more than happy to help them with their troubles, but it soon became apparent that their problems were more than a simple ‘good versus evil’ fight. Though Mickey fought valiantly alongside them, it wasn’t enough, and he lost all three of his friends. This devastating time almost made him give up being a Keyblade Master, but Yensid convinced him that a failure wasn’t forever, and maybe someday he could still save his lost companions.

Eventually Mickey did become a Keyblade Master, and with the title came the real responsibilities. When he noticed the stars were going out, he left his world with a mysterious note to his friends so they could search worlds to find ‘the key’, as he had full faith in them. During his new adventure, he wound up having to lock himself and a new friend named Riku in the Realm of Darkness in order to save their mutual friends. As the two wandered in the realm, Mickey learned Riku had the unusual ability to control the darkness – Mickey had always assumed that if you used such power, you were inherently evil, but Riku proved that darkness was merely a tool, not a way to control your mind. In turn, Mickey helped him also find a way to control the light.

Though Riku was worried about being taken over by a cruel being named Xehanort, Mickey believed in his friend, and they split ways after leaving Castle Oblivion, though they would meet again and again in their travels. During one such meeting, Riku was losing control of his body’s appearance, and made Mickey swear not to tell their friend Sora. Mickey managed to meet up with Sora not too long fter, and once he defeated the newest threat, Nobodies, he handed him Riku’s Munny pouch before giving him advice about Master Yensid. He met Sora again at Hllow Bastion, and though he revealed some vital information about Ansem, he kept his promise and didn’t reveal the truth about Riku. During this time, Mickey tried to fight on his own and ordered his friends to leave, but they refused, and he allowed them to help – which resulted in what they thought was Goofy’s death. Horrified and enraged, Mickey dove into a dangerous Heartless battle, desperate for revenge, but it was thankfully revealed that Goofy had survived. Afterwards, he fled in a darkened route to ensure that this time he would not be followed.

Mickey managed to find his friend Ansem, and while he saved him from death once, Ansem appeared to vanish after his device exploded. He then teamed up once more with Sora, Donald, and Goofy to take on Xemnas, but Xemnas used his powers o block Mickey and a young girl named Kairi from aiding in Sora’s fight. Sora won the fight, everyone and everything seemed to be back to normal, and Mickey and his friends went home. But of course things are rarely so easy, and when Mickey read Jiminy’s journal, he found a puzzling entry that he couldn’t leave alone. Chip and Dale scanned the entry to try and go through its code and its memories, but the system was full of bugs. Mickey sent in a Data Sora in order to get rid of the bugs, guiding him along and learning about the hidden memories in the journal. But in the real world, Mickey and his friends were attacked by heartless, and then they found out they couldn’t leave the room.

It turns out that Mickey and his friends had been transported into the memories of the journal, and needed the aide of its physical form, Data Riku. They traveled into the digital memories of different worlds, finding out that Pete and Maleficent were trying to use the journal and its memories as world domination tools. The best way to stop them would be to reset the journal, but Mickey was extremely reluctant to do so, as Data Sora/Riku would lose their memories, and Pete and Maleficent might be killed. There was also a glitch in the system threatening to destroy everything, which meant even Mickey being in there was dangerous. He managed to get Pete and Maleficent out in the real world, and met Data Namine, who helped explain Sora’s important connection to other major characters. The glitch was destroyed, and Mickey found out that the journal related to his three lost friends – Aqua, Terra, Ventus – and that there truly was a way to find them. With this information, he went to Yensid, where they discussed this and how Xehanort was becoming more powerful than ever. They came to an agreement that Sora and Riku needed to take the Mark of Master Exam, which would officiate them as Keyblade Masters.

While Sora and Riku took the exam, Mickey learned that Pete and Maleficent had taken Minnie hostage so they could get the data from Jiminy’s journal. Surprisingly, it was former enemy Axel – now Lea – that came to the rescue. With Minnie safe and the bad guys chased off, Mickey returned to Yensid’s tower with Lea so Lea could also learn how to wield a Keyblade. But Sora and Riku still hadn’t awoken from their tests, Mickey realized the trap that was laid out, and with Yensid’s permission, he tracked down Xehanort to try and stop his efforts. Xehanort revealed Terra’s true fate, breaking Mickey’s heart, and when Mickey tried to stop the same fate from happening to Sora, he was unable to break free from the evil man’s grip. This time, it was Donald and Goofy who saved the day, breaking the spells and allowing Mickey to fight with full strength. They saved Sora, but ultimately it was Riku who passed the test. But now there’s one more person they need in order to stop Xehanort’s plans for good, and Mickey is sent to fetch the next Keyblade Master – Kairi.
Personality:
For a guy who is typically all smiles and sunshine, he’s had to boulder a lot of tragedy during his life. But it just goes to prove how strong he really is, as no matter what happens to him, he refuses to give up. He does not even allow himself proper time to grieve over these events, because he needs to do what he needs to do right now, and can’t wait for anything(Example : Goofy’s ‘death’ In KH2, Mickey barely hesitated to dive into action as revenge for what happened to his fallen friend) . Often, however, that trait gets him into trouble, as he often doesn’t ask for help and feels he can do these things by going head-first. (Example: In KH Birth, he thought he knew better than his master, Yen Sid, and took the Star without permission to go traveling) Though he can be stubborn and arrogant in that way of thinking, he honestly means well when he does these things, and is only trying to help. When he does leave people behind, it’s because he trusts them and feels they can handle themselves, because if Mickey thinks of you as a friend, you have his complete faith.

When he’s not whacking shadows with his giant key, Mickey is very friendly and pleasant, eager to make friends and share stories. He often assumes the best of people before he gets to know them, and even if he’s been hurt by a friend, he can still hold firm belief in them that they can change. His love for his friends is so strong that it can even change things he strongly believed in before. (Example: Before meeting Riku, he thought all who used the power of Darkness were bad. But after meeting him and spending time with him, Mickey decided that Riku could use the power of Darkness for good, and in fact encouraged Riku to do what he could with both darkness and light.) He’s also a bit of a mischievous guy, able to tease and prank like any child, but also knows when it’s time to man up and take responsibility. He’s loved and respected by everyone in his kingdom, but he never lets that give him a swelled head, and treats everyone equally.

Though there’s little more Mickey would love than to just relax in the arms of his wife and see his friends happy and healthy, he can’t deny that he enjoys adventures and mysteries. He can feel useless if he has to stay somewhere and not do anything, which is why he tends to seek these mysteries out so he can solve them and right the wrongs. Adding this with his determination, he lacks the ability to give up on any cause for any reason. He is willing to do anything to help even complete strangers, even at the cost of his own safety. (Example: At the end of KH 1, Mickey willingly closed himself and Riku off into a realm of darkness, not knowing what was on the other side but knew this would save his close friends, Donald and Goofy, and a kid named Sora who he barely knew.) This is a mouse that cannot be stopped when he has a goal in mind, no matter how many years it takes or how badly he wants to go home. He’s stubborn to a fault with a heart of pure gold.

For a long time, Mickey’s views on good and evil were fairly black and white, except when it came to people he personally knew, such as Pete. As a result, he was under the impression that anyone who used light was good, and anyone who used darkness was evil. But with his time spent alongside Riku, those views began to change, as he saw someone who was clearly a good kid use the darkness without becoming corrupted any further. This didn’t come as a gigantic or unwelcome shock – as a loving person, he welcomed the idea of change, and encouraged Riku to follow his own path to dawn. Thanks to this, he became a firm believer in second changes for those he knows little about. He’s even come to worry about those who have deeply wronged him, such as Maleficent (Who threatened his home and wife at least twice!). Ultimately, he would rather that all bad guys turned good instead of having to fight and defeat them. As much as he enjoys a fun fight and adventure, he knows peace would be the best gift of all.

Once Mickey became king, he became fiercely independent, thinking he could do things all by himself. As a result, he wound up getting into a lot of trouble, especially during his apprenticeship under Master Yensid. It wasn’t that he was selfish, but he didn’t want anyone else to get hurt – and he happened to be very headstrong in his beliefs. So time and time again he’d leave his kingdom when he thought he could handle it by himself, and left vague, small details for those he actually trusted. Over the course of the story, Mickey saw that his keeping secrets (such as not telling Sora what happened to Riku in 2) and continuing to act on his own was actually hurting as many people as he was saving. He had to remember the importance of teamwork, and by Dream Drop Distance, going to Yensid and staying around the Mark of Mastery Exam, he was shown it was okay to still ask others for help and to work alongside his friends.

Mickey also has a deep, instant love for those he first meets – a sort of “a person’s a person no matter how small” mentality, as shown in Coded. Though Data-Sora and the others were just made out of code, he was very concerned when he learned they would lose their memories. He also tends to trust people automatically, and even though people have abused this trust (Such as Xehanort) he still is willing to trust people he has only just met. He knows not all people are good, but he’s happier to believe that most people are, and it’s been near impossible to kill his faith in humanity. Good will ultimately triumph, even if it means using unusual means to do it, such as Darkness or becoming allies with enemies, like Axel. But he’s eager to use these new ways, and enjoys learning how to use these new ways to his advantage.
Sample Post:
Y'know, I've seen a lot of things in my time. Stuff that wouldn't make a lick of sense to other folks, or things people just wouldn't believe. But in all my years of world exploring, this is something really special.

... These pages don't rip at all! No matter what you do! I've tried pullin' and yankin' and even usin' my teeth, and there's not even a single wrinkle! Ha ha ha ha! I kinda wanna bring it back home to Disney World! I bet Jiminy Cricket would love to have his journal made with this kind of stuff. Plus it'd mean you'd never have to buy the same book again... I bet that'd make Scrooge one happy duck!

And as I was thinkin' about this, I thought maybe it'd be a nice little talk we could all have. If there was somethin' you could keep from his world, and bring home to yours, what would it be? You already know my answer!

... Though I might also bring home some of nice tasty desserts.

I also play Mickey Mouse in dreamwidth, under the username ‘takesyoubytheheart’ which has several journal entries and such, so feel free to browse through them if you want to see more of I’ve done with him.
Why do you think this character would be a good fit for the game?
It was suggested to be on an app_this_plz a long time ago, and after finally getting off my lazy butt and taking a good, hard look at this game, I think Mickey would be an interesting addition. Since I allow fourth walling with him, it’d be amusing to see all the ‘wait, he’s real?!’ reactions (and his subsequent annoyances that people insist he isn’t) , and his constant cheery attitude would help keep this strange family of characters together.

Also, Chad-chan keeps shivering kittens warm!
